Foreign visitors must reserve the Terracotta Army in advance through an accepted real-name booking channel and bring the original passport used for the reservation. The official Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Museum page says all visitors, including foreign visitors and people eligible for free admission, must book ahead. The attraction’s formal name is the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum or Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Museum. Its official visitor page describes a real-name online reservation system using the official website and official WeChat accounts.
For a foreign passport holder, five details need to agree:
- full name as shown in the passport;
- passport number;
- nationality and any other required identity fields;
- selected visit date and time slot; and
- the original passport presented at the gate.
Do not substitute a passport photo, hotel copy or a different travel document unless the museum’s current instructions expressly allow it. If a passport has been renewed after booking, contact the booking channel before travel rather than assuming the old number will be accepted.
What Is Included In The Museum Visit
The official page states that the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Museum consists of two parts:
- the Terracotta Army Museum, where the excavated pits and associated displays are located; and
- the Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Archaeological Site Park, also called Lishan Garden.
The same-day ticket includes shuttle service between the two sites according to the current official visitor information. The page advises allowing approximately 1.5 hours for the museum components, but a private itinerary should protect more time for security, orientation, shuttle queues, interpretation and the party’s walking pace. A half-day block is a planning recommendation, not an official minimum.

- Peak season, March 16–November 15: ticket checking from 8:30, last check at 17:00.

- Standard adult admission: RMB 120, with the same listed price in peak and low seasons.
Major-holiday opening hours are subject to the latest announcement. Prices, discount eligibility and operating times can change, so the live museum page remains the authority at booking and again shortly before the visit.
The museum currently instructs time-slot visitors to arrive about 30 minutes before their reserved time. It also states that the North Gate is the entrance and that the visitor, ticket and identity document must match at verification.
A Booking Sequence For Foreign Visitors
1. Decide The Xi’an Date Before Buying The Ticket

Copy the machine-readable identity details exactly. For a family or private group, check every traveler separately; one correct adult booking does not repair an error in another passenger’s record.

Keep the order record, booking reference, selected time and customer-service contact offline. Carry the original passports in a secure but reachable place. A guide can help interpret the process, but cannot override a mismatch between the reservation and the identity document.
5. Reconfirm Holiday Notices

How To Pace The Pits
Pit 1 provides the largest visual scale, but starting with the biggest hall is not always the best interpretive sequence. A guide may begin with the discovery story, construction method and smaller displays before using Pit 1 as the main reveal. The exact order should follow live gallery access and visitor flow.
Inside the halls, expect long standing periods, dense viewing rails and changing light. Photographers should follow current museum rules and never use flash where prohibited. Families may need a shorter interpretation plan; older travelers may need rest points and a less ambitious second site.

- whether Lishan Garden is included in the plan; and
- the latest sensible departure for the next confirmed event.
