Answer Brief
The Answer, Briefly
If something goes wrong during a China trip, use the right help for the right problem. Call emergency services for immediate danger or urgent medical need. Contact the relevant police or authority for a lost passport or crime report. Contact your embassy or consulate for consular and emergency travel-document support. Contact your insurer for covered medical and disruption costs. Contact the tour operator for local communication, itinerary changes and supplier coordination.
No single party replaces the others. A private operator can help the traveler navigate the situation, but cannot issue a passport, make a medical decision, override police or immigration authorities, or promise that an insurer will pay.
Save These Before The Trip
Keep the following offline on every adult's phone and on paper:
- Passport identity page and visa or entry document copies.
- Travel insurance policy and assistance number.
- Airline and rail booking references.
- Hotel names, addresses and phone numbers in Chinese and English.
- Tour operator's daytime and after-hours contact path.
- Embassy or consulate contact information.
- Medication list, allergies and emergency contacts.
- Bank card cancellation contacts.
Do not store the only copies inside the lost phone or suitcase. Leave a secure copy with a trusted person at home.
Emergency Numbers In Mainland China
The principal numbers are 110 for police, 119 for fire, 120 for medical first aid, and 122 for traffic accidents. Language support can vary. Give the exact location, hotel or landmark, the nature of the emergency and a callback number. Ask a hotel employee, guide or nearby person to assist with the call when possible.
For a situation that is inconvenient but not an emergency, contact the operator or hotel first. Do not use emergency lines to solve an ordinary missed meeting point.
If A Passport Is Lost Or Stolen
- Move to a safe place and check whether the passport is misplaced.
- Report the loss to the local public security authority and obtain the documentation they provide.
- Contact the traveler's embassy or consulate for the current emergency document process.
- Contact the operator, airline and hotels because the replacement document may affect tickets, registration and departure.
- Follow immigration or exit procedures required for the new document.
The exact process depends on nationality, location and circumstances. Do not travel to the next city until the competent authorities and carrier requirements are understood. A photo of the passport helps identify the document but is not a replacement travel document.
If A Phone Is Lost
Use another device to lock or erase it through the platform's official service. Contact the mobile provider, bank and payment-wallet providers as appropriate. Change important passwords, particularly email and financial accounts. Contact the hotel, guide or police for the lost-property process.
Because payments, train information and communication may all be on the phone, keep one backup card, some permitted cash, printed hotel details and the operator's number separately. The China SIM and eSIM guide and mobile payment guide explain why one device should not be the only plan.
If Someone Becomes Ill Or Is Injured
For an urgent condition, call 120 or seek immediate medical assistance. For a non-urgent issue, contact the insurer's assistance service and the local operator to identify suitable care and transport. Bring identification, medication information and insurance details.
The guide can help communicate and reorganize the itinerary. The clinician makes medical decisions. The insurer decides coverage under the policy. A tour operator should never discourage necessary care because it complicates the schedule.
If the traveler has prescription medication, carry it in the original labeled packaging with supporting documents appropriate to the medicine. Read the prescription medicine checklist before departure.
If A Train Or Flight Is Missed
First determine whether the traveler missed the service or the carrier disrupted it. The rebooking rights, fees and insurance position may differ. Contact the official carrier channel or station or airport service desk, then tell the operator because the arrival transfer, hotel and next day's plan may need to change.
Do not buy several replacement tickets before confirming which one solves the route. A rushed decision can create duplicate bookings or arrive at a different station or airport without a transfer.
For a missed train, keep the original passport and booking information ready. Current China Railway rules and station handling apply. For a flight, use the operating airline's official process.
If A Supplier Changes Or Fails
A hotel room, vehicle, guide or attraction booking can change despite prior planning. Ask for the facts in writing: what changed, why, the proposed replacement, any difference in value and whether the traveler must approve it.
An operator should have a local escalation path and alternative suppliers. It should not hide a material downgrade or tell the guide to negotiate the commercial issue alone. The private-support guide explains the operating difference between one local contact and a disconnected list of bookings.
If The Traveler Is Separated From The Group
Stay at the last agreed point when it is safe. Call or message the guide. Use the printed hotel card and meeting instructions. Do not keep moving through a large station or attraction unless the group has a pre-agreed fallback point.
Families should put a contact card in a child's pocket and teach the child to approach uniformed staff rather than leave the site. Adults should know the day's meeting point even when the guide is leading.
What AVIORA Support Can And Cannot Do
AVIORA's China-based team can communicate with local suppliers, explain options, adjust the itinerary where possible, help arrange transport or interpretation, and keep the next destination informed. The exact financial result depends on booking terms, supplier decisions and insurance.
We cannot replace emergency services, authorities, embassies, medical professionals or insurers. Trust comes from saying that before the trip, then coordinating responsibly when those parties need to work together.
The arrival handoff checklist shows what should be established in the first 24 hours. The first-China private journey shows how one operations path connects several destinations.
Questions Travelers Ask
What Number Should I Call In An Emergency In China?
Call 110 for police, 119 for fire, 120 for medical first aid and 122 for traffic accidents in mainland China. Ask a local person to assist if language makes the call difficult.
Can My Embassy Replace A Lost Passport?
Embassies and consulates provide the current emergency travel-document process for their nationals. Local police documentation and immigration or carrier steps may also be required.
Will Travel Insurance Pay For A Missed Train Or Changed Hotel?
Only the insurer can decide under the policy. Keep receipts and written explanations, contact the assistance service promptly and do not assume every inconvenience is covered.
Can A Tour Operator Accompany Me To A Hospital Or Police Station?
Local assistance may be arranged depending on the location, urgency and contracted support. Ask before booking who coordinates after hours and whether interpretation or accompaniment creates an additional cost.
What Should Be In An Emergency Contact Card?
Include the traveler's name, hotel, operator contact, insurance assistance number, emergency contact, important allergies and a brief bilingual instruction where appropriate. Do not expose unnecessary financial data.
