Choose six days when you want two concentrated historical chapters and are happy for Beijing and Xi'an to carry the trip. It is particularly effective for travelers who value interpretation, archaeology and the Great Wall more than shopping or a large number of neighborhoods.
Extend the route when you need a slower start, a full food program in Xi'an or more than one Beijing garden and hutong day. Six days is a focused route, not a claim that both cities can be explored exhaustively.
01The Six-Day Idea: Archaeology First, Imperial Beijing Second
Six days works for Xi'an and Beijing because the cities tell related but distinct stories. Xi'an begins with the Qin empire, Silk Road exchange and living old-city food culture; Beijing then expands the story into imperial planning, ritual and the Great Wall frontier.
Plan five hotel nights and treat arrival and departure times honestly. The route is most comfortable when the Terracotta Warriors and Great Wall are never squeezed into the same transfer day.
02Days 1 To 3: Xi'an's History In Context
Use arrival day for the hotel and a manageable old-city introduction. On the first full day, visit the Terracotta Army with enough time for the main pits and museum context. The following day can combine the City Wall with the Muslim Quarter or another heritage layer chosen around crowds, prayer timing and food interests.
